Rare Buxbaumia minakatae moss
Buxbaumia minakatae is a rare moss that only occurs on dead logs at a particular stage of decay. This specimen was discovered on a large decorticated log on the Columbia-Greene Community College nature trail in 1982 and persisted only until the log no longer provided suitable habitat. It was still present in 1983 but gone in 1984.
